ISA certified, grew up on this stretch of coast, and has been teaching visitors to surf here for years.
Everyone here calls him Boke. Ravindu grew up on this stretch of Sri Lanka's south coast, and guests keep describing the same thing — a lifelong relationship with the ocean that comes across as calm. He was teaching visitors to surf on these waves for years before Sri Lanka Surf Insights existed, and some of his students keep coming back season after season.
His coaching stays simple. Instead of a long list of corrections, you get one or two clear things to work on. Instead of being pushed into whitewater, you learn to read the water and paddle in yourself. And instead of surfing whichever beach is closest, he picks the break that suits your level and the day's conditions.
He's an ISA (International Surfing Association) certified instructor, and lessons run out of the school's base on Pubudu Mawatha, Matara, Sri Lanka. From there it's a short tuk-tuk ride to the beach at Matara itself and the sheltered bay at Polhena, or the reefs at Madiha. For the softer, busier bay at Weligama or the bigger beach break at Mirissa, Ravi drives the group out there rather than the other way round.
